The Girard Yellowjackets will challenge the Conneaut Area Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Girard came out on top against North East on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Yellowjackets walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Grape Pickers. The contest marked the Yellowjackets' most dominant win of the season so far.
Joe Ferretti was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Mason Kalicky, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Girard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North East only managed five.
Meanwhile, Conneaut Area never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Cambridge Springs with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Conneaut Area let Chase Stewart and Alex Wilpula run wild. Stewart went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Wilpula went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those stolen bases marked the first that Wilpula has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Aldrich, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Girard's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Conneaut Area, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Girard has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Conneaut Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Girard beat Conneaut Area 8-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Do the Yellowjackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
