Basketball Recap: Wellborn Comes Up Short

Wellborn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took an 83-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jacksonville Christian Academy Thunder. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (66), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Wellborn lost, don't look at Ollie Boot. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 38 points and nine boards. Those 38 points gave Boot a new career-high. Kahlee Jenkins was another key player, putting up 12 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wellborn smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jacksonville Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Noah Lee, who almost dropped a triple-double with 19 points, 26 boards, and nine assists. Lee is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 23 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jesse Gannaway, who posted 31 points along with six boards and five assists.

Wellborn's defeat dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Jacksonville Christian Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.

Wellborn has already played their next game, a 77-67 loss against Weaver on the 3rd. As for Jacksonville Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-47 defeat against Donoho on the 1st.
