The Wildwood Wildcats suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against South Sumter, falling 74-42. While losing is never fun, Wildwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 590th, while South Sumter is ranked 276th).
Wildwood's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zayden Garcia, who scored 15 points along with two steals, and Terriyon Bryant who scored 12 points. That's the first time this season that Garcia grabbed two or more steals.
Wildwood's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-11. As for South Sumter, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-7.
Wildwood will take on Halifax Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Halifax Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 14 contests. As for South Sumter, they will head out on the road to square off against Citrus at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
