Alcorn Central had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Belmont Cardinals as they made off with an 8-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jarrett Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alcorn Central saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zane Depoyster, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Depoyster is becoming a predictor of Alcorn Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

Alcorn Central pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Belmont, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Alcorn Central beat Belmont by a score of 7-1 on Friday.
