The South Florence Bruins will face off against the West Florence Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Florence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, South Florence didn't have quite enough to beat East Clarendon and fell 7-6.
Amare Reaves was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe McLaughlin, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, West Florence put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over White Knoll.
Matthew Brown and Avery Weaver made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Brown tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Weaver didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Brown has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Brown scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Weaver scored a run while going 1-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that Brown snagged this season.
In other batting news, Ryan Coscetti was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Carson Haynes was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
West Florence's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for South Florence, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
South Florence's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. South Florence has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for West Florence, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will South Florence continue to outrun the ball?
South Florence might still be hurting after the 13-5 defeat they got from West Florence in their previous matchup last Saturday. Will South Florence have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
