Northwest is a perfect 3-0 against Eastern since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mohawks will be playing at home against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Northwest is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
While Northwest's victory against Clay wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mohawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Panthers on Friday.
Meanwhile, Eastern can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. Everything went their way against Glenwood as they made off with a 17-1 victory. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Trey Kelly made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Christian Smith, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Eastern's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 0-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Cade Leist, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Eastern hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Northwest pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern, their win bumped their record up to 2-10.
Northwest took their victory against Eastern in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 16-5 score. Do the Mohawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
