The Carrizozo Grizzlies came into Tuesday's contest having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 33-27 W over Hondo Valley on Tuesday. The victory was just what Carrizozo needed coming off of a 56-25 defeat in their prior matchup.
Carrizozo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dream Barela, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Gabriela Saenz, who scored nine points.
Carrizozo's win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-16. As for Hondo Valley, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carrizozo is on the road again on Thursday and plays Lake Arthur at 5:00 p.m. on February 8th. Lake Arthur comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last nine games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Hondo Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Alamo Navajo at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alamo Navajo has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
