For the first time this season, Cross will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to square off against the Andrew Jackson Academy Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cross is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Cross is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Legacy Christian Academy with a sharp 16-1 win on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Stingrays.
Savannah Hollings was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.5 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Sydney Hollings and Alaysia Hollings did most of the damage at the plate: Sydney scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3, while Alaysia scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Sydney has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lulu Carbone, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Cross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Andrew Jackson Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 18-3 to Dorchester Academy. Warriors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Raiders since on Wednesday.
Andrew Jackson Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Crosby, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That run marked the first that Crosby scored this season.
Andrew Jackson Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Cross, their record now sits at 3-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cross hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. However, it's not like Andrew Jackson Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cross came out on top in a nail-biter against Andrew Jackson Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will Cross repeat their success, or does Andrew Jackson Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
