Basketball Recap: Sa'niah Stokes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Terrebonne over Covenant Christian Academy

After flying high against Pope John Paul II last Friday, South Terrebonne came back down to earth. The South Terrebonne Gators took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Covenant Christian Academy Lions. The Gators have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

South Terrebonne's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sa'Niah Stokes, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and six blocks. Stokes is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makaya Verdin, who had seven points along with seven boards and five steals.

South Terrebonne's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Covenant Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.

South Terrebonne won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Glen Oaks at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Covenant Christian Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Bourgeois at 5:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
