Softball Recap: Atkins Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Eastern Guilford, Atkins was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dudley Panthers a 19-0 shutout. The Camels have beaten the Panthers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.

Aniston Pennington made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Pennington was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Atkins got a massive performance out of Ava Fleming, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Alejandra Scruggs was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Atkins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Atkins pushed their record up to 1-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 13.6 runs. As for Dudley, they now also have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atkins will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Glenn at 6:00 p.m. on March 17th.
