St. Joseph's Prep hasn't had much luck against Archbishop Wood recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hawks will head out to take on the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. St. Joseph's Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
St. Joseph's Prep came into this matchup off a tough 13-run defeat on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Devon Prep by a score of 7-5 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hawks have suffered since April 24, 2025.
Daniel Matthews was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, George Van Dean made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Wood came up short against Father Judge on Monday and fell 7-3.
Archbishop Wood also got a good showing from Matt Melillo, who pitched four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Melillo has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Archbishop Wood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Vacca, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Archbishop Wood suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 14-4. As for St. Joseph's Prep, their record now sits at 11-7.
St. Joseph's Prep's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Hawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Archbishop Wood, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will St. Joseph's Prep continue to outrun the ball?
St. Joseph's Prep suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Archbishop Wood when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
