AA Region 8 recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Oglethorpe County, who took down 344th ranked Oglethorpe County, 56-50.
Rabun County moved up to 298 from 329 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AA Region 8. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of besting Union County 38-10.
Rabun County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Wes Holcombe threw for 283 and three touchdowns and Charlie Woerner had 142 yards receiving. On the ground Woerner chipped in 87 yards. Jeb Gipson helped Rabun County's passing attack out by catching four balls for 86 yards.
Lee Shaw's team's Holcombe and Woerner have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Holcombe has thrown for 1485 yards this season, while Woerner has 25 catches for 613 yards. Kendrick Presley from the Patriots leads the league in rushing with 752 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oglethorpe County takes on Washington-Wilkes. At the moment, the Patriots are in fifth, while the Tigers are in first.
Jefferson extended the longest winning streak in AA Region 8 this week by beating Social Circle, 47-10. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
