After a string of four wins, East Newton's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. 2025 welcomed they with a 59-33 loss courtesy of the McDonald County Mustangs. The game marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

McDonald County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dakota O'Brien, who went 9 for 12 on her way to 20 points in addition to six steals and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlie Martin, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 16 points along with eight assists and four steals.

East Newton's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for McDonald County, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Newton will venture away from home to challenge Lamar at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for McDonald County, they will challenge Cassville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. McDonald County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.7 points per game this season.
