The Kenwood Broncos will challenge the Whitney Young Dolphins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Whitney Young will be up against a hot Kenwood squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Kenwood blew past Fenwick 55-31 on Saturday. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Friars are ranked 172nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kenwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was London Walker George, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 17 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Those six steals gave Walker George a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Danielle Brooks, who posted 11 points and three steals.
Kenwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Whitney Young had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They took their game with ease, bagging an 88-27 win over the Eagles. The Dolphins pushed the score to 72-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had no chance of recovering from.
Kenwood better keep an eye on Destiny Jackson. She was instrumental in Whitney Young's win, going 9 for 13 en route to 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Ellis, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 13 points and eight boards.
Whitney Young has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for Kenwood, their record is now 23-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Kenwood and Whitney Young are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Kenwood hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 72.4 points per game. However, it's not like Whitney Young struggles in that department as they've been averaging 63.2 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Kenwood didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Whitney Young in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 57-52 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Whitney Young's Kiaya Johnson, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Kenwood still be able to contain Johnson? There's only one way to find out.
