The Box Elder Bees struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Tuesday (the Syracuse Titans were 21% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Box Elder's rough 73-47 defeat to Syracuse might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Box Elder can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Syracuse is ranked fourth).
When it comes to explaining why Box Elder lost, one person who can't be blamed is Madi Thurgood. Despite the final result, she scored 9 points along with 11 rebounds and 4 steals. Thurgood is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Ashlyn Wight was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Leading Syracuse to victory were Cortnie Barker and Avery Sanders. Barker dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Sanders scored 25 points along with 6 assists and 4 steals. The game was Sanders' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Maylee Anderson, who scored 14 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Box Elder and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Syracuse, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Box Elder won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mountain Crest at 7:00 p.m. on December 6th. Mountain Crest comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Syracuse, they will head out on the road to face off against Copper Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Copper Hills is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
