Two dominant players in Hunter Wallace and Maeve Salveson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Swink Lions will head out on the road to face off against the St. Mary's Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Swink's game was all tied up 12-12 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They slipped by Kim/Branson 29-28.
Swink relied on the efforts of Wallace, who scored ten points, and Briana McElroy, who scored 13 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Wallace has scored at least 25% of Swink's points.
St. Mary's has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 24 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Manitou Springs last Saturday as St. Mary's made off with a 55-31 victory. Given St. Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Manitou Springs is ranked 175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Mary's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Salveson led the charge by scoring 21 points along with four steals. The matchup was Salveson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaela Pedro, who scored 15 points.
Swink's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. As for St. Mary's, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
