Basketball Recap: Preston Comes Up Short

Preston lost against Philip Barbour back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Preston Knights lost 71-50 to the Philip Barbour Colts. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Knights have suffered since January 10th.

Despite the loss, Preston still got an impressive performance from Cameryn Sypolt, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Sypolt is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. Jade Parker also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Preston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Philip Barbour found their leader in sophomore Izzy Knotts, who dropped a triple-double with 27 points, ten boards, and 12 steals. The matchup was Knotts' fourth in a row with at least 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Finley Carpenter, who went 7-for-13 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists.

Preston dropped their record down to 6-11 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Philip Barbour, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Preston has already played their next contest (against Mountain Ridge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Philip Barbour, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 73-60 win against Bridgeport on the 14th.
