Basketball Recap: Clinton Comes Up Short

Clinton lost to Starkville back in January of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Arrows had to suffer through a 57-29 loss at the hands of the Yellowjackets. While losing is never fun, the Arrows can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked second).

Despite the loss, Clinton still got an impressive performance from Aria Jones, who shot 55% from the field on her way to 14 points and five steals. Jones is becoming a predictor of the Arrows' success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 8-3 (and 2-4 when she doesn't).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Starkville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jade Brown, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 12 points along with four steals and three blocks. Brown is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Logan Warren was another key player, shooting 56% from the field en route to 13 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Clinton and nudges their season record down to 10-7. As for Starkville, their win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Clinton will take on rival Murrah at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Starkville is set to square off against their familiar foe Madison Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
