John Champe and Rock Ridge are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. John Champe is looking for their season's first victory.
John Champe came up short against Lightridge last Thursday, falling 12-1.
John Champe saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Rock Ridge got themselves on the board against Park View last Thursday, but Park View never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Phoenix, who have now won four games by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Riya Cherukuri was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyra Young, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Sahasra Abbineni, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Rock Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for John Champe, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
John Champe took their win against Rock Ridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Phoenix have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
