Roxana gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Jersey Panthers by a score of 30-18. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Shells' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Panthers are ranked 289th).
Roxana found their leader in sophomore Mekhi Shorter, who rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Roxana's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roxana will challenge Red Bud at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jersey, they will face off against Freeburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
