South Fork came tearing into Thursday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points) and they left with even more momentum. They greeted the New Year with with a 55-40 win over the Pine Knights. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 51-42 two weeks ago.

Despite the defeat, Pine saw an underclassman step up: freshman Rob Sawicki went 8 of 17 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds. The game was Sawicki's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Thomas Sawicki was another key player, putting up ten points and seven rebounds.

South Fork's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Pine, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.

South Fork wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 72-19 defeat against Jupiter on the 3rd. As for Pine, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-46 loss against Westwood on the 3rd.
