The Saint Stephen's Episcopal Falcons will head out to challenge the Canterbury Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Saint Stephen's Episcopal is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Saint Stephen's Episcopal took a 16-run defeat the last time they faced off against Admiral Farragut, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Saint Stephen's Episcopal came out on top in a nail-biter against Admiral Farragut on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.
The team relied heavily on Apollo Rumpel, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jackson McLeod, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Canterbury's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Oasis Christian by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Crusaders couldn't push the score so high this time.
Gabriel Blaxberg put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Blaxberg wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brooks Merrill, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 6-3. As for Saint Stephen's Episcopal, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Saint Stephen's Episcopal has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Canterbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Saint Stephen's Episcopal took their victory against Canterbury when the teams last played back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 11-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Saint Stephen's Episcopal since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
