Baseball Recap: Newcomerstown's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Newcomerstown waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.

Leroy Raber was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, earning two RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Newcomerstown got a massive performance out of Tanner Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Conner Somogye, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Newcomerstown hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tuscarawas Central Catholic struck out ten times.

Newcomerstown's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Tuscarawas Central Catholic, they are on a 34-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newcomerstown will head out to face off against Conotton Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 3.5, the Rockets 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Tuscarawas Central Catholic, they will venture away from home to take on Lake Center Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
