Del Norte and Rancho Bernardo are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Nighthawks will be playing at home against the Broncos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Del Norte's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Rancho Bernardo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
If Del Norte beats Rancho Bernardo with six runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Nighthawks never let San Pasqual get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Wednesday. That looming 6-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Nighthawks yet this season.
The result came thanks to Ava Giaime's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alexis Kyles was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Taylor Maeda was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Del Norte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Pasqual only posted a batting average of .087.
Poway hit Rancho Bernardo with a six-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Broncos lost 9-2 to the Titans. The loss continues a trend for the Broncos in their meetings with the Titans: they've now lost six in a row.
Rancho Bernardo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellery Housand, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.
Del Norte is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Rancho Bernardo, they now have a losing record of 8-9-1.
Del Norte came out on top in a nail-biter against Rancho Bernardo in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Nighthawks repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
