Hopewell-Loudon extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 18-5 in the process. Everything went their way against the Danbury Lakers as they made off with a 13-3 win. Considering the Chieftains have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Matthew Wyman made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wyman was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Hopewell-Loudon let Brayden Brickman and Kellen Frankart run wild. Brickman got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Frankart got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Brickman has posted since back in April. Braylon Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Hopewell-Loudon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Danbury only posted an OBP of .333.
As for Danbury, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
On Danbury's side, Dylan Kenley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Miles McDonald also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Looking ahead, Hopewell-Loudon will challenge Liberty-Benton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chieftains 3, the Eagles 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Danbury, they will face off against Open Door Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
