Clyde and Sweetwater are an even 3-3-1 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. The Clyde Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sweetwater Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clyde will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Clyde barely beat San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Clyde never let San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Friday. Considering the Bulldogs have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Kaycee Bingham, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy off the board. What's more, Bingham gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had over her last ten matchups.
On the hitting side, Chasity Davis and Brileigh Dailey did most of the damage at the plate: Davis scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3, while Dailey scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Davis has posted since back in April of 2024. Payton Allred was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Sweetwater ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Merkel 11-10. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Badgers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Sweetwater got a massive performance out of Milani Torres, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Torres launched this season. Another player making a difference was Phoenix Walker, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Sweetwater kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Clyde's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Sweetwater, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clyde hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .436. However, it's not like Sweetwater struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clyde took their win against Sweetwater in their previous meeting on Thursday by a conclusive 17-6. Does Clyde have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sweetwater turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
