For the first time this season, Fossil Ridge will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fort Collins Lambkins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fossil Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Fort Collins will be up against a hot Fossil Ridge team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Fossil Ridge came out on top in a nail-biter against Legacy on Saturday, sneaking past 12-10. The game was the first time the SaberCats have beaten the Lightning on their field since April 7, 2015.
The team relied heavily on Owen Morgan, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Mason Griffin was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Fossil Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Fort Collins came up short against Grandview on Saturday, falling 12-2. That's two games in a row now that the Lambkins have lost by exactly ten runs.
Dylan Rubenstein was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Baete, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one double.
Fossil Ridge pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Fort Collins, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Fort Collins' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fossil Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. It's a different story for Fort Collins, though, as they've only averaged .210. Will they be able to contain Fossil Ridge's hitters?
Fossil Ridge beat Fort Collins 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Fossil Ridge repeat their success, or does Fort Collins has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
