The Centennial Broncos won the last time they faced the Raymond Central Mustangs, and things went their way on Saturday too. Centennial enjoyed a cozy 45-31 win over Raymond Central. Given Centennial's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Raymond Central is ranked 245th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centennial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alex Hirschfeld led the charge by scoring 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Ehlers, who scored 11 points.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tavion Johnson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. Johnson scored a full 32.3% of Raymond Central's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Colton Dubas was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Centennial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Raymond Central, they bumped their record down to 1-11 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centennial will take on Shelby-Rising City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Raymond Central, they will be playing at home against David City on Tuesday. Hopefully David City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
