Baseball Game Preview: Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets vs. Random Lake Rams

The Cedar Grove-Belgium Rockets will face off against the Random Lake Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cedar Grove-Belgium is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

Cedar Grove-Belgium had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt St. Mary's Springs on Saturday. The Rockets were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Ledgers. Considering the Rockets have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Carter Schmitz made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Schmitz was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Connor Waters was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs. Ira Hilbelink was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Cedar Grove-Belgium kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Random Lake beat Heritage Christian 7-4 on Friday. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by exactly three runs.

Random Lake's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Cedar Grove-Belgium, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

Cedar Grove-Belgium took their victory against Random Lake in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
