Mariner has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Cypress Lake Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mariner has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Thursday, Mariner took their game at home with ease, bagging a 55-12 win over the Sharks. That looming 55-12 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Mariner yet this season.
Cypress Lake has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell to Ida Baker 46-42. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cypress Lake in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Moriah Anderson, who scored nine points. Another player making a difference was Bri Madore, who scored nine points.
Mariner's win ended a eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Cypress Lake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-8 record this season.
Everything went Mariner's way against the Panthers when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the Tritons made off with a 48-26 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mariner since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
