It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the J.H. Rose Rampants can now relate to. They took a 20-6 bruising from Havelock on Thursday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for J.H. Rose in their matchups with Havelock: they've now lost three in a row.
Jysen Shepherd threw for 105 yards on nine of 13 attempts. Landon Richards was his top target, picking up 33 receiving yards. On the ground, Jameer Roach rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown.
Havelock got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jonathan Williams out in front who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 125 yards and a touchdown on only ten passes. Havelock also got help from Jaheim Waller who showed off his sure hands for 91 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding J.H. Rose to a paltry 200 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Havelock's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out seven times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
J.H. Rose now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Havelock, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-0.
J.H. Rose does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Havelock will be playing in front of their home fans against Northern Nash at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Northern Nash is ranked 22nd, while Havelock is ranked 29th).
