Jaden Zuniga was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 93 yards and three scores. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Kemp, who rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Roosevelt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Lamesa on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Tulia out of the water with a 42-7 final score. The Tornadoes pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Hornets had little chance of recovering from.
Roosevelt better keep an eye on Deev Lugo. He was instrumental in Lamesa's win, rushing for 202 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries. Lugo's longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Daniel Ramos was another key player, throwing for 234 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Lamesa's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Roosevelt, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Roosevelt has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 240.2 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Lamesa has preferred to attack from the air: they average 314.4 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Everything came up roses for Roosevelt against Lamesa when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 65-35 victory. In that game, the Eagles amassed a halftime lead of 43-21, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
