Southern Maryland Christian Academy saw some tournament action on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over Eastern. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Southern Maryland Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Jay (JP) Perry II, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave Perry II a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Priester, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Southern Maryland Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but St. Charles ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Calvert. The win was a breath of fresh air for St. Charles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Tristan Hyde and Xavier Proctor were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Hyde struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Proctor pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. St. Charles is 3-1 when Hyde allows one or fewer earned runs, but 0-5 otherwise. At bat, Hyde went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Proctor went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
St. Charles' victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southern Maryland Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Charles struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
