The Choctawhatchee Indians will square off against the Corbin Redhounds at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Choctawhatchee's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Wednesday, when they got past Woodford County's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Indians put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 10-1 win. Considering the Indians have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Isaiah Rohn looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aaron Rowell, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryan Saffo, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
Choctawhatchee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Corbin). They blew past Daviess County 16-6 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Jaden Broughton made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Noah Cima was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Corbin is 3-1 when Cima posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Cooper McCauley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.
The win made it two in a row for Corbin and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Choctawhatchee, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Choctawhatchee hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Corbin struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
