5A Super 6 recap November 13, 2013
Columbine extended the longest winning streak in 5A Super 6 this week by beating Grand Junction, 41-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Rebels.
Lakewood was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after a bye. The Tigers came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Columbine's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Michael Tait threw for 28 and 1 touchdown and Austin Norton had 28 yards receiving. On the ground Jeremy Aparicio chipped in 145 yards.
Andy Lowry's team's dynamic duo of Tait and Norton proved to be unstoppable against the Tigers, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Aparicio was a passing and rushing force as the Rebels bested Grand Junction.
6-foot-0 quarterback Kyle Winkler of Chatfield is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2,176. He has also thrown 25 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ethan Brunhofer. The Arapahoe star has 65 catches for 1,144 yards.
Columbine's Aparicio needs only 16 yards against Valor Christian next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 161 carries Aparicio has accumulated 984 yard this year.
The Rebels took down Robbie Owens' team 41-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Aparicio ran for 145 yards during the win.
