Jefferson is a perfect 10-0 against Hampshire since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Hampshire will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Jefferson extended their winning streak to three on Saturday. The Cougars walked away with a 4-1 win over GVCS Broadfording.
Liam Sager tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jefferson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Healey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Blake Kutcher also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hampshire). They blew past Berkeley Springs 13-2 on Saturday. The Trojans not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2024.
Landon Whitacre was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Mason Wolford, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Hampshire always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Jefferson pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Hampshire, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Jefferson's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hampshire, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Jefferson continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Jefferson's way against Hampshire in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Jefferson made off with an 11-3 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
