Virginia City has gone 8-1 against Mineral County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Muckers will venture away from home to square off against the Serpents at 7:00 p.m. Virginia City has given up an average of 34.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Virginia City is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Carlin, who was ranked fourth at the time (Virginia City was ranked fifth). The Muckers were outmatched by the Railroaders and fell 42-14. The Muckers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Virginia City might have lost, but man, Caleb Olee was a machine: he rushed for 183 yards and one TD while picking up 10.8 yards per carry, and also picked up 50 receiving yards and one score.
Even if they lost, Virginia City's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Daniel Costell was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.
Meanwhile, Mineral County entered their tilt with Coleville last Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Wolves, posting a 62-0 victory. That looming 62-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Serpents yet this season.
Virginia City better keep an eye on Chase Reeves. He was instrumental in Mineral County's win, rushing for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries, while also throwing for 167 yards and three TDs on only ten passes. What's more, Reeves posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in August of 2024. Jonathan Serrato was another key receiver, picking up 138 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mineral County proved: they limited Coleville to a paltry 2.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Quentin Isom for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mineral County didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 12.9.
Mineral County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Isom led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Virginia City now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Mineral County, their record now sits at 3-1.
Everything went Virginia City's way against Mineral County when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Virginia City made off with a 48-27 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Muckers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
