For his career at Gretna, Zane Flores has played in 30 high school football games, has thrown for more than 6,000 yards and 51 touchdowns to just 17 interceptions and ran for an additional 19 scores. Next year at this time, he will be preparing for a college football career at Oklahoma State after turning down offers from Bowling Green, Indiana, Kansas and Kansas State.
But this week's Top 10 is about which returning offensive football players turned in the top stat lines in Nebraska a year ago. Mike Kayl's 3-star quarterback edged out 8-Man sensation Jack Wemhoff of Elgin/Pope John who fell just shy of 2,000 yards rushing a year ago.
Last fall, Flores completed over 70-percent of his passes for 2,885 yards and 26 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. The No. 2 prospect in Nebraska according to 247sports.com also ran the football 74 times for 216 yards and 10 more scores.
Wemhoff, who has two 1,000-yard rushing seasons for Wolfpack coach Greg Wemhoff, ran for 1,937 yards and 25 scores on 377 carries. The senior to be also caught nine balls for 206 yards and three more touchdowns.
Wallace's Carson Glunz ran for 1,896 yards and 31 touchdowns to sit third this week while Aiden Kuester of Neligh-Oakdale fills in the No. 4 spot after throwing for 2,494 yards and 31 scores. Rounding out the Top 5 is Summerland running back Trevor Thomson after he ran for 1,861 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Pierce is the only school to have two or more athletes make this week's Top 10. Quarterback Abram Scholting completed 117 of 181 aerials for 2,265 yards and 30 touchdowns. Benjamin Brahmer was on the other end of 63 of Scholting's balls for 1,119 yards and 13 touchdowns. Scholting and Brahmer claimed the Nos. 9 and 10 spots respectively.
