The Commerce Tigers will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Athens Christian Eagles at 7:30 a.m. Hopefully Commerce focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
After a string of three wins, Commerce's good fortune finally ran out. They fell just short of Elbert County by a score of 54-52. The matchup was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but Commerce was outscored by Elbert County in the second.
Despite their loss, Commerce saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Evan Peters, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Sorrells, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Athens Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Rabun County as Athens Christian made off with a 81-60 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Athens Christian has posted since December 12, 2023.
Commerce's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Athens Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Commerce took a serious blow against Athens Christian in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 79-52. Can Commerce avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
