The Albany Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Archie Williams Peregrine Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Albany is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Albany barely beat Saint Mary's the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Panthers on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Reuben Turbow looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Albany got a massive performance out of Mikey Richards, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Richards has posted since back in March of 2024. Preston McGowen was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Albany always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Archie Williams' good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 6-3 to Las Lomas.
Archie Williams saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Thongnopneua, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Miki Accomazzo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Albany pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Archie Williams, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
Albany's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Archie Williams, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Albany continue to outrun the ball?
Albany skirted past Archie Williams 5-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Peregrine Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
