Canterbury School is on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Cheshire Academy is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Saints will welcome the Cats at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Canterbury School 4, Cheshire Academy 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Saturday, Canterbury School made easy work of Williston Northampton and carried off a 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won four matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Carter Heagle was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Canterbury School got a great performance from Jake Petrin as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
Back at the plate, Canterbury School let Ryan Gabianelli and Aaron Morice run wild. Gabianelli went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Morice went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Morice has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Logan Martel, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Cheshire Academy faced Salisbury School in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cats came out on top against the Crimson Knights by a score of 5-2.
Tyler Stone looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Cheshire Academy's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mason Pereira, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Cheshire Academy's victory bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Canterbury School, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Canterbury School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cheshire Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Canterbury School came out on top in a nail-biter against Cheshire Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Cats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
