The Mt. Zion Eagles''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Bowdon at home and fell 63-14. Mt. Zion has not had much luck with Bowdon recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Mt. Zion's loss came despite strong showings from Damian Sanders and Rashad Montgomery. Sanders rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown, while Montgomery rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Kyler Mcgrinn was his usual excellent self, rushing for 78 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries, while also throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Mcgrinn has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Chris Wyatt, who picked up 113 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Mt. Zion's loss was their third straight at home , which bumped their record down to 3-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-3 Mount Vernon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.3% over those games). As for Bowdon, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Mt. Zion will head out on the road to face off against Manchester at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Manchester presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mt. Zion in Georgia (Manchester is ranked 140th, while Mt. Zion is ranked 398th). As for Bowdon, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Taylor County at 7:30 p.m.
