After a string of eight wins, the South Eugene Axe's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 66-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grants Pass. South Eugene has struggled against Grants Pass recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Levi Hawes and Trey Saunders certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Hawes dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Saunders scored 18 points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Saunders posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Landyn Bryant, who scored 13 points.
South Eugene's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8. As for Grants Pass, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
South Eugene will head out on the road to challenge Roseburg at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Roseburg has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 722 points over their last ten matches. As for Grants Pass, Grants Pass and Sheldon will face off at 6:45 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
