The Collins Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Pelahatchie Chiefs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Collins has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Pelahatchie will arrive with four straight wins.
Collins pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Heidelberg. That's two games in a row now that Collins has lost by exactly five points.
Despite the loss, Collins had strong showings from Kris Costanza, who scored 20 points, and Jaylen Willingham, who scored 18 points along with six steals. It was the first time this season that Costanza scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Donte Booth, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Pelahatchie beat St. Andrew's Episcopal 44-39 on Friday. Given Pelahatchie's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while St. Andrew's Episcopal is ranked 243rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Collins' loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Pelahatchie, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.
