Baseball Game Preview: Lawton Wolverines vs. Elgin Owls

For the second straight game, Lawton will face off against Elgin. Lawton will head out to challenge Elgin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lawton has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Elgin will arrive with seven straight victories.

Lawton's last matchup with Elgin could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Monday. Lawton lost 12-0 to Elgin.

For Elgin's part, Ritson Meyer and Mason Thornton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Meyer didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Thornton pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Meyer gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had over his last three contests. At bat, Meyer went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Thornton scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Brody Morrison was a standout: he scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Jaxon Southerland was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Elgin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lawton only posted an OBP of .217.

Elgin's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.2 runs. As for Lawton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-18.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lawton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Elgin struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
