The Goodpasture Christian Cougars will take on the Gulf Shores Dolphins in a tournament on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Goodpasture Christian took a loss when they played away from home last Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Page.
Katelyn Bryant was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madi Crocker, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Goodpasture Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Page only posted a batting average of .231.
Meanwhile, Gulf Shores got themselves on the board against Demopolis on Monday, but Demopolis never followed suit. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dolphins, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Anna Leigh Price and Madi Nelson made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Price pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Nelson didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Price went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Nelson scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Price a new career-high in hits.
In other batting news, Neaveh James was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anayia McCutchen, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-3.
The win made it two in a row for Gulf Shores and bumps their season record up to 13-9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Goodpasture Christian, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
