The biggest upset of the week belonged to Portage Northern, who took down 59th ranked Portage Northern, 21-17.
Trevor Sweeney of Mattawan ran for the longest rushing play in Southwestern Michigan - West this season against Lakeview last week. Sweeney's team beat the Spartans as he sprinted for 82 yards on the play and finished with 223 in all.
Mattawan's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Austin Collison threw for 19 yards and Brody Schmuhl had 19 yards receiving.
Lakeshore's JOHNNY NATE and HAROLD WIGGINS have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. NATE has thrown for 1355 yards this season, while WIGGINS, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 44 catches for 631 yards. Sweeney from Matt Stephens' team leads the league in rushing with 1558 yards.
The Wildcats' Brok Lamorandier needs only one yards against Portage Central next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Lamorandier has rushed for 999 yards on 132 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mattawan takes on the Mustangs. The Wildcats are currently in second, while Portage Central is in third.
Brett Foerster's team moved up to 62 from 93 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southwestern Michigan - West. The Mustangs were able to make move up by defeating the Huskies 21-17.
