The Heartland Lutheran Red Hornets scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by St. Edward at home to the tune of 61-10. The victory was some much needed relief for Heartland Lutheran as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Heartland Lutheran had a senior duo take command as Carly Niemoth scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four blocks and Brielle Saddler scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals. Niemoth also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Ella Francl was another key contributor, scoring four points along with eight steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Edward struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Heartland Lutheran racked up 20 assists.
Heartland Lutheran's victory ended a eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-8. As for St. Edward, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heartland Lutheran won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Nebraska Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. As for St. Edward, they will head out on the road to challenge St. Francis at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
