The Huntingtown Hurricanes lost against the Great Mills Hornets back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Huntingtown took a serious blow against the Hornets, falling 67-39. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Huntingtown has scored all season.
Huntingtown lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Amari Smith, who scored nine points along with three blocks. Dominic Brooke was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Huntingtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. This was only their ninth loss (out of 14 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Leading Great Mills to victory were DeAndre Dorsey and Cameron Brooks. Dorsey scored 21 points along with six steals, while Brooks scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brooks has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Logan Mills, who scored nine points along with six steals.
Huntingtown has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Great Mills, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
Huntingtown will take on the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. La Plata is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Great Mills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Patuxent will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Hornets are ranked 50th).
