6A Central Valley recap Sept. 26, 2012
West Salem scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Sprague, 29-26. At the time, the Olympians was ranked 12th in the state, while the Titans was 26th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to West Salem, who took down 12th ranked Sprague, 29-26.
Sam Tweedt and Jaylynn Bailey gave South Salem a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Tweedt threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns, while Bailey ran for 186 yards. Teammate Joshua Benton added to the ground attack by rushing for 97 yards.
Devon Dunagan was the best wideout in 6A Central Valley this week as McNary fell to Mountain View. Dunagan racked up three receptions for 88 yards. Garrett Hittner helped McNary's passing attack out by catching one ball for 41 yards.
Jay Minyard's team's Jon Schaub and Nicholas Moran have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Schaub has thrown for 782 yards this season, while Moran, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 17 catches for 263 yards. Bailey from the Saxons leads the league in rushing with 641 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Celtics take on South Salem. McNary is in fifth place, while Scott Dufault's team is in third place.
Shawn Stanley's team was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating the Olympians 29-26. The Titans came in at 13 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
